Anybody aged 18 or over may join the SEED Madagascar Conservation Programme. While it isn't a requirement to have an interest in biology or conservation, experience in fieldwork is welcomed. Volunteers will also find it helpful to be in good physical shape as there are some long walks.
The volunteer scheme is designed as a 10-week programme starting at the beginning of January, April, July and October each year, but is split into two-week modules; allowing even those of you with tight schedules to savour Madagascar and make a valuable contribution to our long-term conservation work. Volunteers can join the programme for 2, 4, 6, 8 or 10 weeks (1 - 5 modules).
Each two-week module encompasses many different aspects of the SEED Madagascar Conservation Programme work, allowing individuals to gain an in-depth understanding of our integrated approach to conservation. To participate in the full range of conservation projects, volunteers usually stay for longer periods of time, from one month to the full ten weeks.

To participate on the SEED Madagascar Conservation Programme, we ask volunteers to make a donation towards our charitable causes as shown in the table below.
With limited places available on each scheme, to guarantee your preferred dates we ask for an initial donation, with the remaining balance due three weeks before your agreed departure date.
|Programme Duration||2 weeks||4 weeks||6 weeks||8 weeks||10 weeks|
Your donation supports the charitable work of SEED Madagascar. Funds generated by the programme support the charity's projects in Madagascar, with 92% of all donations being spent in direct pursuit of our charitable aims.
Don't let the size of the donation put you off! SEED Madagascar is there to support you with a wealth of fundraising experience and resources available to volunteers.
You may of course donate from your own savings.
Your donation covers transport costs for the duration of your programme from the point you are picked up at the airport in Fort Dauphin, full training, all meals, orientation and language classes in Madagascar, and a dedicated team to guide you.
Additionally volunteers need to cover their own pre departure costs including flights, comprehensive travel insurance,visa,personal equipment (including tent and sleeping mat for camping out), medical preparations and vaccinations, which are typically in the region of £1,000 - £1,500 (these can sometimes be fund-raised too, with the prior agreement of SEED Madagascar).
To apply for a place on our Conservation Programme please apply online (takes 20-30 minutes).
Complete and return your application to SEED Madagascar and we will endeavour to inform you within seven days whether we can offer you a place.
