Construction volunteering
SEED Madagascar has been working in southeast Madagascar for 20 years, during which time we've built more than 100 classrooms in the Anosy region, increasing access to education for over 10,000 children. Our school construction project, Sekoly, aims to provide safe, suitable and comfortable school infrastructure to communities in need. We provide new schools, add extra buildings to schools which are vastly oversubscribed, and refurbish schools which have fallen into disrepair. We also build classroom furniture, latrines and rainwater harvesting systems at schools to help improve student health and increase the likelihood that girls will attend school.
In the Anosy region, 51.5% of 6-10 year olds have never attended school

For large groups we can offer an entirely bespoke volunteering experience, joining the construction team on a school building project and making a concrete difference. Your group will join our professional construction team and local labourers, learning skills on the job as you watch the building take shape each day. The tasks construction volunteers work on may include preparing the foundations, cement mixing, bricklaying, making classroom furniture or painting the walls.
It’s not all hard work though. We work closely with the group organiser to plan an itinerary that works for you, and to ensure a memorable, engaging and informative experience. We can include fun activities and local tourism too, such as visiting the lemurs in local nature reserves, Malagasy music or handicrafts, and various beach activities.
Corporate group volunteering
As a team building experience volunteering with SEED Madagascar is unbeatable. Camp in the beautiful surroundings of southeast Madagascar, learn real construction skills, and bond as a team whilst helping those who need it most. Your group will learn more about each other, development work, and Madagascar - a truly unique country facing real challenges. We are sure your team will leave with a new sense of purpose, with newfound resourcefulness and resilience, having learnt more about each others strengths and weaknesses.
Andramanaka school
In 2019, volunteers from IT companies RanTek A/S and Teneo Inc came to the remote village of Andramanaka to help our construction team build a school. This unique volunteering experience also included the two companies jointly funding the construction project as part of their corporate social responsbility aims.
