The article explains how SEED Madagascar’s Project Masoandro is strengthening education by investing in teachers across rural Anosy.
In rural Anosy, the Digital Learning component of Project Masoandro (“sun” in Malagasy) equips primary schools with innovative solar-powered educational technology. SEED partners with Jiro-VE to install solar panels on the roof of the school building, providing the energy needed to recharge tablets, projectors, speakers, and powerbanks. This ensures that digital learning can happen reliably, even without electricity.
SEED visited with Mr. Joffrey, Headteacher at Beandry EPP, to gather information on the new school building and discuss how the school withstood Cyclone Jude.
My name is Theodore Rakotonirina, and I’m writing to you as a proud member of SEED Madagascar’s team and Head of our schools programme. This year, I’m reaching out to share something that’s deeply close to my heart—Project Fanaka, our 2024 Christmas Appeal.
Esinda is an extremely isolated community in the southeastern region of Anosy, and is the most remote location where SEED is currently operating. During this initial visit, SEED’s team observed a critical need for education as well as water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) infrastructure, and was immediately struck by the unparalleled passion for education displayed by the community.
Today we celebrate International Day of Clean Energy, reflecting on Project Masoandro (sun in Malagasy). Through this project, SEED is working to support isolated communities in accessing clean energy, electrifying the country’s Anosy region.
